Day Nine

A Full Day in Sedona

Sedona is so beautiful we chose to spend another day there, walking around the main street, hiking and enjoying another run with UTV's. Red Rock Cafe for breakfast rewarded us with yet another colossal portion breakfast. Eggs for my friend, pancakes for me and again I couldn't finish.

We went directly to one of the many off-road vehicle rental places, finally choosing Sedona Off-road Center.  Sedona has many things to do other than off-road riding. It's known for its spa centers, shopping at Tlaquepaque Arts Village, and the nearby Coconino National Forest. I wanted a hike in the forest, but my buddy begged to go for another spin off-roading.
I agreed as the Utah experience was terrific, but this started bad and got worse quickly.

Four hours in a Can-Am will set you back about $349, and that's what most of the rental places charge. The vehicle offered to us was completely covered in dirt. While you will get dirty riding these, I didn't want to have dirt all over me before we started. Getting to the trails requires nearly a half-hour of driving through the town. Once there, the misery begins as the trails are the roughest and rock-filled you'll ever ride.  After a few hours, you'll need one of those spa treatments - I'm not kidding. We did come to an interesting cliff dwelling, but I would have preferred hiking instead.

A much-needed cocktail and dinner were in order, and I can say the best of that was served at The Hudson. After dinner, a drive to the Airport Mesa was rewarding as the elevation, and clear skies provided an abundance of stars to see at night. Even the Milky Way comes into view, and it's something not to be missed, especially if you live in a city like me.
