Burgundy

Burgundy and it's rarefied terroir

A 3-hour drive from Paris or 90-minutes from Chablis brings you to the holy grounds of Romanee-Conti and its surrounding wine regions of the world's most expensive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Many of my friends wondered how I could afford to drink so much Burgundy while living in Paris. Easy, it's about half the price without any import markups. Still, this wine can get super expensive to stupid expensive real quick. Don't think that Burgundy's farmers don't know it as they make it very easy to spend your money here. To be honest and direct, I love this region, and I don't travel here for the hotels or dining experience... It's all about the Pinot Noirs. Let me get the hotel and food out of the way 1st.

Ibis Hotel: conveniently located and a good value as it's outside the charming village of Beaune.

Le Table de Square: right in the center of town and sitting outside lets you enjoy Beaune's ambiance.

Baltard Cafe: for a quick outdoor coffee and something sweet after an afternoon of wine tasting, this place is spot on.

As you travel down from Paris to Beaune, a few interesting stops are.

La Moutarderie Fallot: a place to get some of the finest mustard you'll ever taste.

Musee du Vin de Bourgogne: Offers the history of winemaking and a complete look at Burgundy's overall wine world.

Hotel Dieu Museum: A former hospital dating from 1443, with its high gothic architecture and one of the most beautiful rooftops you might see.
