Mendoza

Mendoza culinary delights of Argentina

Food and Wine are nearly a religion to the people of Argentina. The wine region of Mendoza is home to some of the most celebrated dining rooms you can visit. Here are a few I have visited.

  • Francis Mallmann 1884: This Michelin star chef's restaurant is on par with any dining experience you can ever enjoy. From its creative cocktails to its wine menu featuring many Argentine greats. Not cheap, but you get your money’s worth with this example of fine cuisine Argentine style.

  • Bodega Lagarde: many restaurants in the Mendoza wine region connect to a winery with pricey wine tasting menus. I have no issue here, but there were limited options without them. Tables are set outside by one of its working vineyards, a Pretty spectacular setting.

  • O Fournier Winery: A stunning winery houses the most beautiful dining views I've ever enjoyed. The Andes Mountains are the backdrop to a collection of authentic Argentine comfort foods paired with the winery’s best selections. Catch the sunset over the Andes.

  • Bodega La 'Azul: another winery with a 5-course tasting menu, plus options for mouth-watering empanadas.

  • Cavas Wine Lodge: way off the beaten path, this hotel is home to one of the most romantic restaurant settings. Tasting verticals and daily lunch and dinner specials, I suggest the world-famous beef of Argentina paired with a magnificent Malbec. Buen Provecho!

*I was disappointed that inexpensive dining options were few and far between. Packing a few sandwiches or empanadas in the city before traveling to the wine regions might be a good idea.
