Sonoma

Sonoma with dining for all budgets

I have a special love for Sonoma. The wine, of course, the food, yes, but the people are unbeatable. A buddy of mine for 20 years would only visit Napa. I suggested he visit Sonoma for an afternoon. Upon his return, I asked how he liked it to which he replied, " I bought a property,"  Enough said let's eat.

  • My absolute favorite place to dine is Spud Point Crab, a 45-minute drive to the coastal town of Bodega Bay. Why am I asking you to drive so far? To eat one of the best crabmeat sandwiches and white clam chowders you'll ever have. Bodega Bay, famous for Hitchcock's film The Birds, is a crabbing town where you'll see the dock's filled with crabbing boats and crab pots. Bonus: a 1/2 mile down the roads are bluffs overlooking the Pacific.

  • Barndiva: in Healdsburg Square, this is fine Sonoma dining and worth every penny  Great Place to chill with bites and a glass or two of wine.

  • Lola's Supermarket: A Mexican supermarket. They have a burrito stand in the back that makes the best burrito's you will ever have. The locals eat here, and so should you. The Breakfast Burrito is a must-try.

  • Taqueria El Sombrero: there may be better taco places, but this one is right off Healdsburg Square. Authentic, delicious and great value.

  • Bird and the Bottle: located in Santa Rosa, the emphasis is comfort food, but as its name might suggest, its the fried chicken your gonna want to try.

  • The Girl and the Fig: considered by some to be the most exceptional dining in Sonoma. It's one of the pioneers of farm to table.

  • Oakville Grocery: again it's good but bring your platinum card

  • In-n-Out Burger: if you have to do fast food, this place has a few chains along the highway. Cheeseburger with "special sauce." is the right call.
